Evaluation
I took inspiration for these images from a real life situation in my family. The images attempt to portray inner turmoil that has been hidden under the skin for years. The use of text provides the viewer an insight into the emotions of the person going through the trauma. I have introduced play on words related to the body parts I have photographed in order to strenghten the meaning behind the message. I have not photographed any identifiable features in oder to protect the anonymity of my subject by providing the viewer with only a hint of the turmoil through these images, I am reflecting the behaviour of the subject, who continues to hide her true emotions for everybody around her. The back story to my images focuses on a very large financial debt between two members of my family that has caused and created a irreparable rift in the family and is ongoing.
The arrangment of the images are sequential and represent the timeline of the events and emotions that the subject has gone through and that I've witness first hand. The first image shows the subjects hands extended in the position of borrowing money. This is a physical representation of her having taken money from another and used inapropriately. The begging image underlines the fact that those who beg often hid behind the character of a poor, downtrodden person.
My second image expresses the mixed messages about how successfully the money has been used. The use the toe label, which is traditional used in associated with a morgue, reflects how she portrayed two faces for years. One being the confident, professional business woman running a successully entreprise, the second being the web of debt on which business is tottering. It also will also take a lifetime to repay back the financen lost and also to receive forgiveness. It also signfies the death of her so-called "successful" business.
My third image, connotes the beginning of self relisation thats things are not going well, as a way of maintaing pride, my subject still avoids to admit to family, friends and loved ones the truth of their situation.
In my final 4th image represents the moment of confession. As you've probably noticed that 3 out of the 4 of my images include dark backgrounds which give an impression of space in which the subject can move, contrasted with the remaining image of the bear back which fills the entire frame. This was a deliberate decision as I wanted to express that there is no space i.e no opportunity to for my subject to run away anymore from the truth, its signify the point where the subject has to face her demons and come forward can confess all to loved ones.
