There's a lot of be said about this project so I'm just going to blurt out and say it. Its be an insight from start to finish. I've identified something about myself that I never really thought about before and that is the fascination I have with people and human behaviour. I find myself often thinking about fundamental things that occur in life. I use public transport nearly everyday and my journey is taken up thinking about the people who are also commuting to and from places. I try to guess what type of lifestyle they lead but what I'm also more enthralled by is how certain strangers can become part of our daily life with you knowing little about them.
When this project of Environmental Portraiture was briefed to me I wanted to take on a similar theme which I based around my colour assignment. I wanted highlight originality but at the same time discover something extraordinary. Initially I liked the idea of exploring how a certain place could attract a variety of different individuals but my decisions took an extended route which expanded further. Rather than concentrating on a public environment I choose to turn my focus and attention on a private residential building which housed a number of interesting characters all living under the same roof. I intended to examine whether the residents individual apartments were customized to mirror their personality, what different characters inhabited the building and how one apartment significantly altered from another.
I feel as if I took a hands on approach in fulfilling what I had set out to do. It took a lot of organisation and prepping to arrange and meet with my subjects. There was also a lot questions that I wanted to ask in order to get know more about them and more specifically how I could portray this in my images. I understand that to make this body of work stronger, I could of got more of the residents involved however I was limited by the time allowed for this project to run and hindered by the difficulty I experience of contacting some of the other neighbors who worked most days of week. Aside from that I've been exposed too four completely different living environments and have also had encounters with very unique individuals from various walks on life, each of whom had a different story to tell.
